An unusual visitor in the fourth grade

Battle Creek, NE - Do you know what the world's most widely eaten meat is? That's right folks, pork. Mrs. Kari Seifert's fourth grade class at Battle Creek Elementary enjoyed learning all about these sometimes "misunderstood" animals on Tuesday, January 23rd. Ryan Mead, Mrs. Carrie Sheppard's brother, a representative from Progressive Swine Technologies in Columbus, gave a fact filled presentation which held the 4th graders' attention.
In fourth-grade, one of our Nebraska State Standards covers Agriculture in Nebraska and this was an excellent way to learn more about one of Nebraska's livestock, pigs. The students really enjoyed the presentation and I was amazed by how knowledgeable they were about pigs. I believe the class will agree with me in saying that the best part of the presentation was being able to hold a piglet.
